This FAQ covers the basics of using the Wire Wheel®
What material is the Wire Wheel made with?admin2026-01-30T19:56:25-07:00
- The frame is zinc-plated steel (long life w/o rusting)
- The plastic is high density polyethylene (most commonly used for garbage cans, it’s tough!) It has better durability , especially in cold temperatures , than PVC
What are the advantages of the 415D Wire Wheel over a stud reel?admin2026-01-30T19:55:27-07:00
- It holds two rolls of wire instead of one.
- The Wire Wheel doesn’t require a stud to operate. This is especially helpful for remodel work when studs aren’t usually readily available.
- You’ll reduce the number of trips to and from your truck. The Wire Wheel can be carried in one hand loaded with two rolls of wire, leaving your other hand free to carry additional tools and equipment.
- The Wire Wheel’s outer plastic shell protects wires from exposure/damage in the back of your truck.
Since the Wire Wheel is so easy to carry, you can easily move it with you as you work.. This reduces the amount of wires left on the floor for other tradesmen to step on. - The Wire Wheel’s enclosed design eliminates dropped loops and kinks, making it easy for one electrician to work by themself.
- The wire feeds easily both vertically and horizontally.
Is it hard to rewind excess cable?admin2026-01-30T19:52:43-07:00
- No. Hold the wire in one hand and spin the wheel with the other, and your wire will wind up easily. The tabs on the outside of the wheel make the wheels easy to spin.
Will the Wire Wheel tip over if you pull sideways?admin2026-01-30T19:52:50-07:00
- Yes, it will. However, since the Wheel is so easy to carry, you will quickly learn to set it in the direction you’re pulling to avoid this problem.
Are the Wire Wheels limited in the sizes of wire they can hold?admin2026-01-30T19:53:01-07:00
- For the 415D the wire coils should be no more than 4” wide and 15”” outside diameter 14/2, 14/3, 12/2, 12/3, 10/2
